Before The Flood
Before the Flood is made up of recordings from at least 3 sessions at the Experimental TV Center. Before the Flood is a three part piece, the first movement was recorded in January 1985, the second movement in one or two sessions in February, and the third movement was recorded in March.
With a little more generosity, each of the three movements could have been edited to stand alone. Here I added 10 seconds to one segment in the third movement, I always thought it was just too stingy.
Though a Dylan fan, at the time I was unaware of the album with the same name, no I did not lift the title from the album. The name came from the joke at the beginning of the tape, the first segment’s reference to a single drop of water, and that was the inspiration to use an antediluvian reference.
